Lazio In Trouble, Again
The news that there was trouble once again, in Rome during a European tie shouldnae come as a surprise to European and Italian fitbaw watchers as Rome seems to be getting a reputation as a no go area for travelling fans.
The actual story of the incidents involving Lazio, however is more interesting and one that relates, no matter how much we protest, to the current situation we find ourselves in.
Last week Celtic cyberspace met to discuss how we would handle supporters singing what is now deemed unacceptable songs and the outcome was any sign of these songs starting should be met with a chorus of "Hail Hail".
It seems that the decent Lazio fans tried to drown out the right wing element who continued to chant racist abuse even though their own coach told them that it could land them in serious trouble.
Last week at Westfield the Celtic support never got themselves into that situation there was no hint of "unacceptable" songs and the support were quite rightly praised for their conduct. We hope this continues but i think we all know that human nature will deem one day we might need to use the "Hail Hail" tactic.
The question for me is why would fans go out their way to deliberately hurt the club the profess to love? Is it because the Lazio fans feel that the politics that are linked wie the club are more important to be upheld than gaining money and exposure in the Champions League.
Or is it that the Lazio fan's see themselves as superior to others and will continue to do what they want to peddle a racist, sectarian and bigoted agenda? That sounds depressingly familiar doesn't it?

I`ve been a few holidays to Italy and the thing that has started to get me is that Mussolini is still talked about in a reasonable light. `He built this and that... the profile of this hill looks like him.. etc`
So it seems still okay to keep the facist pot boiling. This Lazio thing shows how main stream Italians can be brought into the fascination with Mussolini (who was chosen by Di Canio as a hero of his in his book).
Italy, you are such a great country in many ways but you have to sort this out!
On to Aberdeen on Sunday, it`s bound to be close again.
I noticed that Billy McNeill has endorsed the central defence partnership. It should improve with time if the players stay free from injury.
Agree with your views on the Italian - Lazio problem. Didn't Di Canio come out and say it was a 'Roman' salute harking back to the days of the Empire, the first time he did it?
Bit similar to the 'Ulster' salute of TFOD. Can't get worked up over the 'Red Hand' salute though, when a Hun did it to me once and I said "thanks didn't realise that you knew there was a Red Hand in my family coat of arms?", it annoyed him even more. Love winding up those morons.
Totally agree with Caesar's thoughts on the CB partnership. I do believe that they should be allowed to play together and build up a partnership that could be the bedrock for years to come. I have often said that I believe that our weak point defensively is our midfield posted missing, last year being too slow through Lenny's old age and this year perhaps not being as defensively minded as perhaps we need. Hence the risk of repeats of the Newcastle humping when we play against similarly strong hard running sides.
Still smiling from Wed, hope the bhoys carry it through to Sunday!
Come on the Hoops!! (Clap Clap)

It will be interesting on how uefa react to the chants..i mean it's one of the big boys..will a token fine be dished out or a banning order?
Would a team from italy been made to play on a plastic pitch in a cl qualifer?
I think the Italians have a different view of what a facist is than us. I think in Di Canio's case he doesn't want immigrants in his country but doesn't want to eradicate them...but some of his ultra pals do.
I don't get the red hand salute but they now have a new fad to prove that they are scum, since they canny sing anymore...beware an up turn in the Big Jock Knew chants...the younger ned generation have picked up on it now..
Agree wie cesar..we need to stick wie jfk and mick unless we sihn nesta or someone of that ilk.
Or midfield needs cover in certain games hence Hartley for aiden...gs will use this tactic to death now...
