Was Yesterday Gordon’s, O’Neill Moment?
There is a moment when you just know something is right and instincts takeover. The moment when Martin O’Neill took Neil Lennon to the Broomloan after another 90mins of abuse for the Ulsterman was a moment such as that.
That moment is credited as being the start of the clampdown on sectarian behavior at football in Scotland. The moment UEFA got interested in the followers of Kinning Park. When MON mentioned the words sectarian and racist in that press conference in Barcelona, the end was nigh for the establishments’ head in the sand behavior.
Martin’s actions were meet with universal backing by the Celtic support; we knew he was in the right. Yesterday, Gordon’s altercation with an Aberdeen steward and an auld bloke has also seemed to have been meet with the same universal acclaim.
After years of abuse that has been dished out to us, the fans, the players and management at away venues up and down the country, Gordon has highlighted this fact to the media. Last week at Westfield, then an interview in a down market Sunday and yesterday at Aberdeen he highlighted the fact that others get away with blue murder.
While the Celtic support are proxy to heavy handed policing, camera’s trained on them for evidence gathering at every turn and a press and SFA agenda that means we are guilty without trial the others, the minnows or the no-marks if you like, get away with the abuse and the pretence that they are not sectarian.
So what happens now? That depends on the SFA but one thing is for sure I think Gordon has maybe turned the corner with the Celtic support.

I really hope that the Club and Gordon stand together on this.
Whether it is Gordon's "O'Neil @ the Broamloan" moment I'm not sure. He gets my full support in this matter whatever. The story of it being the PE teacher's fault also confuses me. Pendrey has never struck me of being someone who would shy away from an arguement as seen by his touchline barneys with McGinn and the Artmedia coaching staff, two years ago. If he was the one involved with any altercation on Sunday, I am damn sure he would have been involved up front with any jobsworth rather than on the periphery as he was when Strachan was standing his ground.
However If there is any chance that El Hadj Diouf is ever at Celtic Park wearing the Hoops then as far as I am concerned all bets are off. I can take the ex-Rangers players at Parkhead, whether they are any good or not overall is another matter.
However, the signing of him would stick in the craw. Please let it be just nonsense from him and the press. I could not easily forgive him for what he did in the heat of the moment that night and then what he said in a court room afterwards.
Hail hail one and all
Shockedbaldy
Baldy agree, pendry disnny seem to be no shrinking violet. Maybe he just saw what the steward was, a jobsworth, and decided to leave it.
I don't read much into the Diouf story, think it's just him shouting his mouth off.
The price is a bit rich anyway.
also stv tonight had a story about us being reported as one "fan@ got lifted for sectarian singing.
they played an unaudioable clip and the presenter said others joined in.
now, the sfa, aberdeen and celtic have all said they have nuthin to report..confirmed by real radio who chased up the story.
do you think we will get sorry from stv?
At a match I don`t believe in personal abuse. My only bother has been at Scotland games with people trying to push me out of queues for programmes and toilets. I know, incredible, I think/know that they were Ra*gers supporters. (a wee bit ugly) However I have heard fans abuse stewards, ambulance men and other fans. Not clever. I think that Gordon should have ignored that Aberdeen steward but it`s done now. The witless reaction of the ref has compounded the situation. Remember Lubo getting sent off for reacting to abuse at St Johnstone?
As for the sectarian singing story, that is a non starter. :-0 Anyway according to Chick Young it`s not about songs it`s the add ons. Or does that only apply to the them.
I know what you mean, Mr G.
As you know, my support for WGS had started to waver, but when one of our own is subject to this level of abuse and injustice, it's time to close ranks.
As for the STV business....can you imagine if Chelsea were being investigated in England that any broadcaster would try and even it up by, without any evidence, speculating that Man U "might" be in the dock too? Sickening!
Ian- there is a difference between abuse and banter. some people, usually drunk think their abuse is banter..it would be shame if this incident instead of highlighting a problem only stopped the banter.
If you give it out you've got to take it back in good spirit.
For the life of me i canny remember the lubo incident..it was maybe in ma tonic wine days...:-(
Pujol- i know you are begining to waver but i feel, like you, the club is now under attack, that sounds right from Follow Follow, but as a text from BOH67 said
"Time baton down the hatches and stick together"
good to see the ssm say that transfer budget available is the same whether we qualify for the group stages or not but if that is the case wot are we waiting on then?
should we not have the money spent by now to guarantee we make the next round?
only thing i can think of is hopefully if there is still a big signing to come the player wants to go to a team in the group stages.
Kevin,
is it banter if you can count the stair rods on the neck? :-)Or is it a more of a complexion thing?
A big signing? Heinze is apparently available for £6.8M. The media is funny.Stan Collymore was Mr Common Sense on FiveLive last night. :-/
Seven- soundbites from the ssm or as CQN put it we always work to an uefa cup budget.
problem is yer big signings my only come in their is CL football on offer as you say.
Think yer hoping a WOW signing is like xmas...it comes round eventually..i'm more inclined to think that while we wnat the top of the top range we will end up wie a grifter rather than a chopper or Ian Harte rather than a decent full back to push Nayls.....
Ian- LOL i think stair rods on the neck means abuse
also was stan commentating on one man and his dog?
Recovering now
Was in greta shock and anger last night when I had the call from bro to say that Diouf was linked to us. See Elvis is linked to the ICT job - fair play to him, hope he takes it as I believe he has the potential to be a fair club manager.
Shocked to hear about STV's allegation concerning the singing. Well I am not really shocked as you half expect this, but how can they ever be considered a serious news channel with this sort of nonsense.
Stan C commenting on the adult 'One Man and His Dog' on one of those dodgy late night satellite channels. Surprised that David Sullivan, the porn King chairman of the Blues, hasn't thought of this and approached Stanley.
Also he could do a special on the top car parks of the West Mids for Bird watching.
You guys are getting a laugh out of me! :-) Keep it up!
Was listening to the media mogul Chris Evans on Radio 2 drivetime a few months back, must have been a few months back as i huvnae been able to drive for 5 weeks, i only listen to radio 2 cause thats all ma car stereo picks up....anyway he was interviewing the guy who created "one man and his dog".
The copyright has been bought by some satellite channel who are going to re-make it as it's cheaper than showing the repeats.
Could this be Stan's big break after his film career went down as quick as Sharon Stone in his one and only scene.
Stan could do the west midlands and Nacho Novo the parks of Loch Lomand and Strathclyde..but watch yer BMW Nacho this time!!!!
Then both could come together for a holiday special "Most Dogging Live"
Stv are running wie the story now that we won't be investigated for sectarian singing...the attempted fit up by them last night was laughable.
When i go home i will post the audio clip they played which the offending singing was meant to take place...
I hope ICT take the chance on Elvis but would rather see Neil Warnock up here..ho ho what a laugh that would be....
Heres the link toSTV lies
Nice to see stv sort of setting themselves right...stv don't say sorry
wonder if ssm has gave them a wee phone call
http://www.celticfc.net/news/stories/news_210807170140.aspx
a nice strongly worded statement from the club...i think a ban is in order for stv until they show some remorse?
lies and linkage...end the old f*rm tag now
Been saying that for ages.
The only people who benefit from the 'Old firm' is them.
All the best one and all. Just been told that I will have no e-access at work on friday. Gutted getting pre-withdrawal symptoms from lack of Celtic news already!!
Hail hail one and all
Badly i thought you worked from home on a Friday?
Nice to see others doing the press and media thing to death...what do they expect when your own club puts you in the limelight?
They set up this line of reporting of a non incident due to them using the sectarian word in the statement to fans...
