Aftermath..and a big question....

The day after the night before, the night before that saw us lead u the cul-de-sac of broken dreams, hopes and promises. A night that deep down never gave us any real surprises, weaknesses highlighted that we knew we had and also coaching weaknesses that we knew we had.

Thing is, decent sleep for once. No going over in ma mind of the shocking goals, the fact of the matter is i agree wie oor managers words while i also agree with the Shakhter coaches words as well.

Shakhter were no better that Spartak Moscow. The game in Moscow shape was decided by an early goal getting chopped off. If that had went in who knows what would have happened. Think what we have to do is look at the Moscow game and take hope from that also last night we created 4 decent chances, which away from home is good.

Thing that really bugs me though, that is puzzling is...

What does Vennegor of Hessleink need to do or not do to be taken off?

Forza

It`s not all bad news, Artur`s value has gone up!
I don`t think Jan was so bad but he`s judged on scoring goals. Naka had a game to forget and the fullbacks lack of pace prevented them taking men on when trying to find crossing positions. Ouch!

Back to earth with a bump!

Due to other commitments, didn't see or hear the game, and only caught up with aftermatch comments on CQN etc after midnight.

By all accounts, I was lucky to have missed out on the pain!

At the end of the day, I don't think we expected to take any points from this one. The performance will hopefully give us a reality check, and hopefully the manager and players will have learned something.

I think the games V Benfica (home AND away) will be vital for our European adventure this season - third in the group and a UEFA place is about the most we are capable of by the looks of it.

PS
Got to hand it to Rosenburg all the same. Surely their resources aren't greater than ours but they regularly get decent results on the road in the CL. Maybe they've got a couple of big decent fullbacks and - maybe more to the point - keep their feet on the ground.

Ach well, bring on the Hibs!!!

sore one last nite lads.

i was very impressed by them, i thought spartak were good but thought they were even better.

we should have spent money on at least one full-back everyone knows that.

i agree i was expecting jvofh off instead of mcdonald.

that big brandao had some game but we made it easy for them at times.

thank god for artur!!!!!!

hibs is a hard one at the weekend.

The word from Daniele in Milan is that a fairer score would have been 5-1. the Benfica defence is not very good and cannot deal with pace. Won`t help the Bhoys too much then! :-(
JVoH was disappointing but made some good defensive headers during the match.
Will Man U or Arsenal be on the radio?:-)

Thankfully been out all day so not read any of the blogs/sites as yet.

Yesterday as I drove home with Senior Baldy from work, I said to him that CyberTimdom had the same atmosphere as before the Copenhagen match and I was concerned again that we had underestimated the task ahead.

We got more than we deserved from last night. To be honest, if not for the Holy Goalie and an amazing decision in our favour in terms of disallowing their goal plus not giving Skoosh the second yellow he deserved, we got off lightly.

Why wasn't Skoosh subbed? He is one of our best players and came so close to being suspended for the next match. If he had been sent off, I would have squarely laid the blame on WGS's shoulders as he had plenty of opps to remove him. The ref did us a huge favour last night as many other refs would have made him walk.

Nails - out of form & out of sorts. But there is no alternative for the guy. I like him, however he needs a break. Only problem being he is our only recognised LB on the roster (as they say in the MLS). Only one of his many crosses and none of Willows beat the first man last night - unacceptable.

We played as if it was a friendly. Like the Newcastle pre-season game we had no shape and allowed their midfield to stroll straight onto our defenders without challenge. Why Hartley was not playing as he did in Paris is a tactical mystery.

I thought he played well when he did move centrally and with the Holy Goalie & Caldwell was our best performer. Indeed I thought that if WGS was not happy with bringing on Sno to replace Skoosh, perhaps play Caldwell in the Holding role and bring on JFK or O'Dea. Gary was twice, the only player we had, that brought the ball forward at his feet, into their half with any purpose - fair play.

JVOH looked slow again and Senior Baldy asked me whether apart from that goal at Old Trafford last year, had he actually scored any goals against a big team for us. Couldn't think of any others myself. He didn't score against TFOD did he?

Donati, Naka and Nails all committed 'mortal' sins in my book last night. Wimping out at 50:50 and even 60:40 challenges (in their favour). Gutted, especially to see smiles by a few players at the end of the game as if it didn't matter when they exchanged jerseys. First strong (and fair!)challenge we had, was Mick's, followed closely by Caldwell's in the second half. By then it was too late.

Skippy was IMO our most effective forward, if that snap shot he had in the 1st half had gone in, I wonder if the outcome of the game would have changed.

I hope we get Euro football after Xmas, that as always is my goal and aim for us this season. I just hope that we will get it.

Onwards and upwards Celtic and no more pulling out of challenges bhoys.

Get right intae them!!!

Just been catching up on the CQN comments.

Got to say that Arctic Monkey's comment is my favourite when referring to Neg Anons enquiry after 'jam'.

It appears that the jam has been replaced with marmite which some love and others hate.

I hate it..........

Lots to talk aboot here lads.

As you probably have guessed I’m a bit ok wie the result- look at the new article- understand oor failings but as Baldy said it was exactly like Newcastle in pre-season so I knew we were capable of such a performance.

Paul Hartley played the deep lying mid role well, as I said to a h*n today why was playing two up front a problem…was Skippy playing full back and tracking there marauding full backs doon the wings?

It’s all aboot balance..we need to find the fine balance between defence and attack, we have to cover the weak areas and sometimes oor fitba ethos needs to go oot the windae.

The lack of full back cover will come back to haunt us as it may happen we may end up wie Caldwell and O’Dea as full backs at one point.

Baldy do you know gary Caldwell got a 4 and oor worst mark in the herald today..i thought he was one that didnae let his heid go doon and as you say flew into a couple of tackles when all were chucking it.

Broon should have got subbed as well, was thinking the exact same thing.

Euro fitba after xmas is a must, will be disappointed if we don’t. When I talk aboot getting oot the group I’m including third spot in that.

I think Massimo smile at the end of the game was a kind of aye that was funny ye arse to a comment by Lucerelli. Make no mistake the bhoys are hurting.

But I have faith in them to turn it round, will need a fair bit of luck and tinkering but….yes

Jan has never scored against the h*ns

Ian- it’s also a shame we are playing Milan next. J five live may have the man u or arse game.

Six- Benfica is now the humdinger….four points and I think we will get third…..

Hibs at weekend is now a must win we must show the old bouncebackability

CQN was a no go for me...a mineshaft of kneejerks..
