Dundee 1 Celtic 2

You line up against a side, which has a player who has the frame, the build, the bulk, the movement and the skill level of, the hundreds of strikers that patrol the Sunday League. You know the ones, the ones that only get a game cause they are 10ft 2.

You line up against a side, whose size and physical presence gives away their game plan. They will play the long baw and use their height at set peices. They will play basic, typical Scottish pub fare fitba.

So how come the uncultured style of the Dundee team made the, ahem, Champions League Celtic look like a pub team, both on and off the park?

Tactically shapeless and clueless on how to combat the direct style, out fought, tackled and physically weak both wie and withoot possession and powderpuff up front against defenders who are not even at journeyman level yet?

And why did Naylor, Mick, Kennedy, Sno, Donati, Rioirdon and Hesslelink all look like they couldnae get in a pubs second string 11?

Oh, finally...if yer going to have the balls to grab the ball and say yer taking the penalty, make sure you give it a decent wellie.......

Oh, finally finally...we are in the next round so job done....

It wasn`t brilliant but Dundee were helped by the worst refereeing performance I`ve seen for many a day and in those circumstances Bobo wouldn`t have made a difference. Good freekicks from Swankie though. The Celtic strikers were kicked for fun, offside flags were raised to stop valid Celtic attacks. Even Billy Dodds sounded the fairer of the commentary team. Every time Artur came for the ball he was impeded. What a game, what a performance!
:-)
Only Pat Nevin had the wherewithall to tell it like it was. Okay the team was outmuscled but what do you prefer your players to do, develop skill or lift weights? How can a `direct style` be challenged if free kicks are given so freely?
On to Mr `smash him` and his team on Saturday. Come on the Bhoys!

I'll give you the ref performance....Mr Brines at his very best.

He gave Dundee free kicks in dangerous areas, for the slightest of tackles and gave us sod all for the kicking we rec'd up the other end...

Skippy stood up to the punishment once again JVOH disappeared...but the game was a battle one that we lost very easily.

Offsides..yes 4 dodgy ones...

Sounds like Mr Nevin spoke some sense but i would love us to see us adpot Dundee style in an European game..we would end up wie 8 men after 20 mins...

Still, we need to handle that...it's scotland we play in...we need to buy and develop players that have skill and can handle the physical element

we need a manager who can change his style to handle the physical element...i.e they have a big man who is winning everything...sit one of yer centre backs deeper to win the knock on's...

I hope we get the huns at home in the next round, seriously, might as well get it over with one way or the other.

Their boy KMcD looked half decent, (and brilliant compared to our midfield) weren't we looking at him at one point?

I think we may have seen the last of DR - let's face it, he's not going to make it
:o(

Agree with most of what was said regarding the 'even handedness' of Mr. brines.

However we knew that this was going to happen this year as it did in the Seville season. We haven't got ready for it and we have got too many players who are not challenging as they should.

We are often too soft in the challenge (I include our keepers coming out and challenging for crosses in that). Is there any player that you fancy winning 9 out of ten tackles in our team?

For all his faults Lenny won most challenges he had to. At present our spine while perhaps technically better than anything we have had for a long time, does not have the stiffness we would hope for when coming up against the more direct style of play.

Last night I was very impressed with Kevin McDonald, who reminded me very much of Tom Huddlestone, who I really rate at Spurs and stated earlier on other sites should have been on our radar after he broke through at Derby.

Still, we're in the hat and that's the main thing!!

Hail hail one and all.

A pub team perhaps, but a pub team that managed to get 2. It happens every season. Take 'em and run.

D i agree i will take it and run but in ma next rant i have to question the bigger picture as Baldy, Six and that have pointed oot.

We did look at that Kevin McDonald- Huddlestone i agree i remember him at Derby- but nuthin came of it.

He looked good last night...but he was up against a poor poor Sno...
