The Final Word...
Not, ever, i'm sorry to say. But it's the final word on Shakhter. I sometimes think the Celtic support love defeat. Hits on sites increase, the phone In's get the usually rabble and the papers get a pound of flesh.
The last time i saw a result create as many column inches wash when the banded together Clyde team beat us in that Scottish Cup tie. This defeat though is a completely different kettle of fish though. The press have been feasting on the corpse of oor Champions League dreams wie glee and so have some of the naysayers.
The bottomline is, Wednesday proved that we are the weakest team in the group but we can and will take points off teams. Only if we play oor best players mind you and the manager gets his tactics spot on, which means covering up weak areas and playing oor best creative player- the one who swings in great crosses and is a set piece expert- in such a position that defending is not an option in away games for him. Mind you, tactics don't always win games it's really doon to the players.
Massimo Donati, the Italian smilier, i think sums it up perfectly today, it was an issue i brought up after the Benfica game last year. The Italian said
"The basic errors we made cannot be repeated against Milan. The difference in these games is all in the head, it is about your mental approach. If we have a steady head, we don't have any problems, so the concentration has to be much better against a side as good as Milan."
We have employed sports scientists and as Mr Quinn said in a recent interview that we are looking at all areas of sports science. Maybe part of oor UEFA cup budget should include paying for a shrink to be on the team plane when they go to Lisboa.
Nuthin else has seemed to work.
Forza

Hey Kev - sounds like you need cheering up -- Benfica better than us -- huns to win in Gerland.

See Tommy Burns is taking on board my and Donatis mantra.
Don't think i need cheering up, all day wedding today so, no update but if Baldy is kicking aboot i'm sure he will do the honours, i think, to paraphrase Brian Potter of Pheonix Nights fame
i've had a big dose of realism feed to me two spoonsfulls a day since 7.55pm on Tuesday night.
We need an improvement both on and off the park..balance is ma new watch word...we have the players...but oor weak areas need to covered....but i understand oor place at the top table at European fitba' now and finishing third is an achievment...UEFA Cup budget and mindset and awe that
It's always guid to hear Mr Keevins making a tit of himself...not unusal as he does it everytime he opens his mouth...right enough....
Six i meant i would fancy ra g*rs to beat Lyon at the bigot brox...and i still do think Benfeca are a better technical and more streetwise side than us...but we are a young team and will learn
No worries
Will do the honours
Come on the Irish tonight!!!!!!!!
No complaints about a player smiling at the end of a match when congratulating the victors. The game is over, it`s being sporting. This `I`m a bad loser` nonsense we get fed as if it`s part of a new wisdom.
Bravo Massimo and well played Shakhtar!
Ever since the game finished last Saturday I`ve been worrying about having to survive another radio hell on Sunday. Anyway I think that the Bhoys will do well in Edinburgh.
Come on the Celts!!!!
