Over To You Dr John...

The not so surprising news that Dr John Reid has been announced as Celtic's new chairman once Brian Quinn steps down is one, that should be meet wie a lukewarm response by the Hoops support.

Mr Reid is a "colourful" character and a strong willed character, a man that was called on by Tony Blair to knock into shape the many gaffs he made during his tenur. A trouble shooter i think he is called in the murky politics business or a fall guy if you look at it another way.

Politics and fitba' shouldnae mix but in this country they do. While i look back on some of his political statements wie embarrassment and no short of anger at some it's not that, thats got me worried.

It's the rumour that he has got the bullet only because Dermot Desmond wants to use him to make in roads in the lucrative defence technology department in the good old Us of A. A former home secretary must have some contact book to invite the major players in that field to play golf in Barbados.

That's not to say that deep down i'm having slight chuckle at the thought of the SFA trying to take on John Reid. Any man who calls Jeremy Paxman a "West London wanker" and states that "no institution has the divine right to exist" is going to be entertainment.

But we could have got George Galloway to provide that if we really wanted to appoint an opinionated politician.
