St. Mirren 1 Celtic 5
Really enjoyed today's showing.
Celtic fully deserved their win and if this is what Strachan has been alluding to with his 'Team 3' then I will be a very happy bhoy this year.
Artur in goal, same back 4 as Wednesday, Deeks replacing Aiden (on the bench), Hartley and Sno in the middle and Skoosh on the right (Naka and 'Mo Mo Massimo' also on the bench). Skippy and JVOH up front.
Entertainment and bags of it.
Was worried in the first 10 mins when Nails went down under a heavy challenge, which brought the trainer on. The fact that we have no obvious cover (or competition) for him is as I have alluded to on earlier posts my main bug bear with the 'strategy' currently being followed by WGS and his team.
Skoosh got the first following good work from Skippy in the 22nd minute, breaking into the box and slipping it by the onrushing keeper. 3 mins later Skippy chipped the keeper to make it 2 nil from the right of the penalty box.
Midfield with Sno anchoring, allowing Hartley and Skoosh to break forward looked composed and defensively I was happy.
Don't know why Sno went off at HT to be replaced by Mo Mo Massimo . Anyone else - not had time to trawl the entire Web.
Three up in the 53rd minute after JVOH scored from (Cross/corner?) at the near post. Three mins later Deeks was found on the right of the box, unusual position as he had been playing exclusively as a left winger before. His shot took a hell of a deflection of the St .Mirren LB, Miranda, and past the St. Mirren keeper. (4-0)
74th min after Celtic had played a game of Headers and Volleys in the St. Mirren 6 yard box, a wild half vollet attempt by Deeks became a superb cross for Big Mick to half volley home to put us 5 up.
A minute later, Miranda got the ball on our 18 yard line, stepped inside and let fly into our top corner. Nothing that Artur could do - it was a stunning strike IMO (5-1)
Showboating from Skoosh was still to come when he ripped the same Miranda all over the place. Miranda reacted a second later to a comment made by my MOM Skoosh and raised his hands into Skoosh's chest in full view of Referee Kenny Clarke. Straight Red - you would have thought, unless you do it to a Celtic player when it only warrants a yellow and Skoosh gets reprimanded for taking the P!$h too much. Only in Scotland.
Final score 5-1. Other subs we made were Killen for JVOH and Magic for Skippy. Both happened around about the hour mark.
Few lapses in our defence, although there were a couple of opportunities which on another day could have gone against us.
However all in all - I'm off to a family BBQ with a big smile on my face.
Thanks Celtic.

I think big Evander was hooked at half time as he was seriously off the pace. Any forward movement ground to a halt whenever he got the ball - obviously Gord forgot to tell him we don't really need to be playing a holding midfield against Saint Mirren :o)
Seems he was coming back on the back of a virus, and wasn't 100%.
He will be glad to get 45' under his belt though, and will do better than today, no worries.
Happy with the result, but less enthusiastic than BaldyM about the performance, especially first half.
There are reasons for that, of course, not least the exersions of midweek for some plus fielding a 'new' engine room.
SPL opposition looks very poor this year, so the hun games will be even more crucial than normal.
However, the CL league will stretch them more than us, I think.
They didn't rest any of their first picks against mighty Gretna, whereas we could comfortably rotate our bhoys, and I reckon StM away a hellava lot harder than Gretna at home.
Nae real fitba for two weeks, is it? The huns away on international duty maybe - for the rugby, mibee ???
:o)
Sno was short of the fitness required for playing on a full size pitch after looking good in short sided games in training. So said the man who counts!
Good to get the 3 points after waiting all weekend for the game.
Have a good week y`all.
Was watching on Senior Baldy's Sky box which froze constantly so often I would see a few mins and then would have to flick to another channel and back to watch the game. So perhaps my impression of the game was not as good as it should hve been.
Me I'm entertained just because we scored goals. Last year I moaned when we didn't so it's only fair that I say I'm happier when we actually do.
Not sure what to make of Millergate this morning. Presume that there is a grain of truth to both sides of the story.
hail hail one and all
what a to do yesterday, i had to argue wie a Spurs supporting barman to show the hoops game as he wanted to watch "the arses" as he caled them.
after telling him that the EPL was basicallly overrated bullsh*t- i mean did he watch Portsmouth v Bolton the other week?- the turning up of five gys wie hoops on made him see sense and the feast of love street was switched on.
1st half we looked a bit of the pace but very comfortable, it was a stroll and i knew that we could go up the gears if needed. Sno looked like a player returning from an injury and it was no suprise when Mo Mo Massimo came on in the second half.
Second half once again out fitness in the last third of games will trouble any team. We become more powerfull as the games go on.
I agree wie Baldy i wanted entertainment, and i'm getting it. Aberdeen, Hearts, Spartak and StM have already bettered anything we watched last season, yes r*ngers are top but they will struggle once the CL kicks in and they have already peaked imo.
we have problems, ie full backs which i have no doubts teams will try to exploit and there will be games when we struggle..but i'm enjoying the soccer at the moment.
Scott Brown was brillant a vintage display one which means i will spend the weekend hoping that he disnny play for Scotland...
Miller gate as GS as pointed out, he didnae to leave and has been pointed out as well he has another £5000 a week will soften his pain.
