View From The Wing- Hearts CIS Cup
When surveying the desolate Celtic Park last night, 10 minutes before kick off I just wondered whether the stay aways had got it right. Whether it was a protest against the fact we had to pay for the game, which should have been on the season book, or a canny be bothered wie this diddy cup non-plusness by the end of a forgettable 90mins sitting in the warmth hoping David Platt snuffed it seemed a better place to be.
As Celtic Park bathed in mair green plastic than the American Express factory, the mind drifted towards other mind numbingly boring home games that seem to grace this competition. Partick a few years back and St Mirren last year sprung to mind. Defeats at home in this competition come easily, it’s a competition that we don’t seem to like and for the first time that I can remember the same player did more to contribute to two defeats in row than most.
Evander Sno missed the penalty against Falkirk last season and last night had what is termed as a mare. Two sitters, a terrible free kick and a ponderous posture on the ball, the scapegoat was born within the first 10 mins of the second half. The booing of the guy was out of order and embarrassing as there were plenty of other players who could have been booed. Resorting to booing your own player is disgusting, the moaning consumer glory-hunting brigade should hold their heads in shame this morning but they won’t as they see it as their right to abuse and not support.
The fact that the charlatan Massimo Donati got let off from booing is a wonder. Gary Caldwell didnae find a decent ball all the second half and everyone’s favorite scapegoat got let of lightly due to the presence of a Dutchman, no not the anonymous and lightweight Hesslelink, who seems to be bearing the brunt of three defeats in four games.
The manager has to be questioned wie his subs, also his midfield set up and the folly of his summer spending that saw us end the game wie nae full backs on the pitch and players that are able to do the Bobby Petta to great effect. That is hide in wide-open spaces for the uninitiated.
Now much positives to take oot the game, it was a game that the team plodded along expecting something to happen rather than trying to make it happen. Oor manager is right to point oot the chances we missed but his positives in this interview again makes me wonder what game he is watching and why in certain games we surrender and play so meekly under his stewardship.

Too Work...
I didn`t hear much booing of Sno where I was because there were hardly any people!
He was taking responsibility, how can you feel for any professional footballer with their huge houses and German ubercars but I did have some sympathy for him.
a defeat but not the end of the world. Losing on Saturday would be closer to that!
Been away and just caught up with the score...
/o\ /o\ /o\
Am I the only one starting to get a bad feeling about this season? A roller coaster where there are starting to to be more lows than highs.
We NEED to get this full back situation sorted out in January, we've been messing about far too long. A disgrace for a club with our stature & ambitions!
This team just doesn't seem to have a winning mentality - Time to get a grip!
Lots to comment on lads
Martin O'Neill- a bit like the Bobo story, i didnae think it was worthcommenting on because i thought everyone knew that his move to Leeds wascommon knowledge as also his agreement ot join Spurs, as admitted by theman himself, after Seville.
He wanted out as i think he knew he had blown the budget and had no money to spend for the next couple of years.
I heard a comment last night leaving the ground that Martin's team would never had played like that...as you say it's the rewriting of history cause i can remember performances under Martin that were worse than that.
CQN- i have tried to keep away from the site, have the occassional look, i do read the articles but skim over the comments. I would rather have 10 decent comments than 100 ones aboot nonsense. But i agree, like mostmessageboards the green tinted specticles make folks persception skewed tosay the least. I now frequent KDS as i find that easier to read posts onsubjects i want to and also the Green Brigade forum as i'm interested in Ultra culture.
Get e-mails saying i should start a blog fight wie CQN...asi'm anti-board and Paul is Pro Board...never got round to it...:-)
Hope Mrs Baldy gets better soon.
Also, i take it Mr Strachan is getting it in the neck from the Cov fans?
Ian- your point on subs, last night i watched a fullback spew on the park, double up in agony and indicated he needed to go off. He lasted a full 15mins to half time before he was taken off. Our manager and backroom staffhummed and hawed over the sub while oor left back was spewing!!!!
Against Gretna it happened as well wie Hartley he indicated he needed to come offand it took them 10 mins to make the change. Shocking.
On Deeks, goalscorer yes but he lacks the full package...don't think hewill be that much of a loss. As i said Craig Beattie would have scored 20goals at Hibs.
Benfica- you coming up are you Baldy? i'll look oot for a blady rugger typethat evening!!!!
Last Night- well there would have been a few off the xmas card list lastnight Baldy, we were poor and as i said in the review it was a game weseemed just wanted to get out of the road. Still had the chances to win it though but it's not good enough just like 3 defeats in four is not good enough, 5 defeats in 10 is not good enough and oor managers team selectionsare becoming bemusing, poderous and down right stupid.
Sno- as regular readers will know i'm not a fan of the big fellow but lastnight i saw hatrid towards the fellow not seen for many a year. As ian points out he was getting on the ball, whether he meant to or just husnae found Donati's knack of hiding yet is unconfirmed.
Brown was charging abouttrying to get involved and Evander was ending up in the most strangest ofplaces i.e right wing.
The moaners were wanting the big fellow to be something he is not, where i thought the introduction of O'Brien or Jaro would have been a better option.
Maybe a case of GS hanging the boy out to dry but i still huvnae seenanything in him to make me think he should play regular.
He seems to slow and unsuited to the hussle and bussle of professional fitba....mind youDonati is rapidly going that way as well.
Six- Jan can't come quick enough and yes i do have doubts aboot the teams mentality and the coaching staff's ability to get them up for big games.
