Today, football takes a back seat .
Am absolutley gutted at the news as Phil was one of the few 'current' players I have ever met while he was a first team player.
My thoughts go out to him and his family tonight.
I have just heard the news on Czech TV. Devastating and shocking. My thoughts and sympathies go out to has family and friends.
You beat me to it Baldy, was hunting for a suitable photo of Phil in the Hoops when you posted..
No mood now to reflect on todays game. Phil was the 1st big money signing i remember, i also remember thinking that signing him was a move to end the orcs reign of terror...
Scored two on his debute at Maryhill..box to box player and if the truth be told Tommy McLean made him the player prone to the injuries by his refusal to let him go for treatment....
My thoughts are with his family and his team-mates who must be devestaded....
Hopefully Celtic and the fan groups will do a fitting tribute to a member of the Celtic family....it's times like this the song you never walk alone makes sense...

i heard on the way home from yesterday's game phil had been taken to hospital after collapsing but never thought for one minute how serious it was.
i felt physically sick when i heard the shocking news a short while later.
RIP Phil.

Very, very sad news and a tragedy for his young family.
Puts a lot of things into perspective.
Was spending yesterday evening at my brother in laws and as he and his two boys are Motherwell supporters, they told me what he was like and what he meant to the club - well respected on and off the park.
Rest in Peace, Phil.
Sixtaeseven- You would have had an interesting conversation wie yer brother in law regarding Phil.
My reaction? Got a phone call asking if i was watching SSN..said no and was told....speechless, i was....
It has been the reaction of others i have found most gauging about the celtic support. A player that many regard off the missed oppertunity to be a Celtic legend, has brought back many memories of the lean times, but happy times judging by the posts on Cybertimdom....
It also highlights the meaning of the hoops to US....
Any player that has worn the HOOPS, something we have all dreamed off, is fondly remembered.
This tradegy has brought home to me that we need to support all in green and white no matter oor opinions...
Still the reporting in the NOTW today was terrible, comapring it to Davie Cooper just to give it a r*ngers angle..was low....two completey different circs and still no proof that the medical reasons were the same...
ALSO....THE SPL, SFA, SFL.....
ALL GAMES SHOULD BE CANCELLED THIS WEEK......
Their half hearted tribute is degrading to Phil and his family. If games can be cancelled for a european qualifier then surely they can be cancelled IN RESPECT OF A PROFFESSIONAL FOOTBALLER WHO DIED DOING HIS JOB?

This was a test of the morality of the game in Scotland. In Italy, the matches would have been cancelled. This isn`t Italy.

I appreciate that many people have paid for expensive journeys and hospitality at Celtic Park. They should be considered too. This humming and hawing approach that we have in this country does mean that all the factors should be considered.
Personally, I think that we should have a more compassionate society but it won`t happen overnight. Government and authorities do not give the lead on this.
I`ll go to the game and will participate with a 55secs of silence and 5secs of applause. YNWA
The game has been cancelled.
I am indifferent to the actual decision as to whether it should be played or not. I see both point sof view, but ultimatelt, we should take our lead from Phil's family IMO.
My anger is that the decision should have been made 36 hours ago with clear leadership, not when it has come out after news of other Celtic's players injuries. This only gives ammunition to those who will accuse us of running away again.
To me, the Club should have gone immediately to Tommy Burns and others who knew Phil well and canvassed their opinion. If they said no, then the decision should have been made then, not after a training session two days afetr the sad event.
I am sore that yet again I feel we have not had the clear, strong leadership that a Club like Celtic requires. This would have stopped a lot of the shite that has been written on the 'Timterweb', allowed the fans to quickly get to grips with the situation than using the uncertainty for petty point scoring amongst ourselves or with regards to TFOD. We should be remembering Phil as a support, not worrying whether a match should have been played or not.
Enough of the rant. To each and everyone of you.
