Falkirk v Celtic FT 0-1

Celtic pirates plunder 3 points on the high seas of incertainty.

Scrappy second half, where we were very much outplayed for long periods.

Can't fault anybody for effort, but we are toiling.

Long balls - WTF?
How many loose balls are not picked up in midfield, or 50/50's not won!

--------------

Artur: he saved us twice in the first half and safe in the second

Hartley: pretty poor, not completely his fault, but he is not a full back.

Caldwell: competent, but nothing great

Mick: played a captain's role at the back

Naylor: pretty poor, completely his fault, cos he is a full back.

Naka: muscled off the ball all afternoon, but supplied the cross for the goal

Donati: getting more involved in games but not a match winner

Brown: my patience has run out: I would sell this guy if we could get our dosh back

Aiden: nothing worked for him today, kicked off the park (defenders on him picked up 2 yellows )

Skippy: set up and scored the goal - worked hard

Jan: thankless task up front, but hit the post in the last minute

Sno for Naka (70min): did well & steadied the midfield

Caddis for Hartley (75min): should have been on from the start

Killen for Skippy (92min): what's the point?

Glad for the three points but fuming that apart from hinkel, that was what many consider to be Strachan's first team!

That was the midfield that many have said is the one we have been missing for a number of weeks, explaining the pre-Christmas poor performances. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Looking forward to Wednesday with a great deal of trepidation to what will be a very emotional night.

Our team is not functioning, and needs fixing.

We have more talent in our ranks than possibly the rest of the SPL put together. I mean, what would your SPL XI be?

Our team should be greater than the sum of the parts. But we've become disjointed.

The longer this goes on, the more incriminating it gets for the managing & coaching skills/ability of GS, GP, TB.

Motherwell is the next big one, but a win there would have us breathing down their necks again.

Time for GS & Co to get the belief and balance right.

Meanwhile, we'll KTF...

At least the defence is doing better but Motherwell will test them. In away games I think that Mick plays too far back to help the midfield find space but it brings Naka and Aiden too deep. The ball to the forwards is too early, the others don`t get up in support and we produce too few crosses. Therefore less corners and free kicks to force the other team back. I think that GS was concerned about the `starting positions` of Naka and Aiden at Falkirk. Hopefully Hinkel (or Caddis)will play on Wednesday and the team can get further up field. Trouble is that Clarkson and McCormick are fast and the back two may sit very deep.

I`ve had another think (when was the last one?)and I think that we need a central defender who can step into midfield with the ball. How about converting Sno to a centre back?

Ian, you HAVE been thinking!
Good to see that we are still capable of original ideas
:o)

Take it you don't think oor Gary is the answer either ?
Shouldn't be a first pick, IMO.

As for Sno, I believe he can go on to become an excellent holding midfielder.
Don't know if it will be with us, tho.
He wants to play matches but we don't seem to give a run of games to the young guys.
Added to that he must feel the bad vibes from a large portion of the support.
I reckon he will probably start to look elsewhere this summer
:o(

Spurs back in for Alega Mutton?
Hope he goes just before they can spend any of the 8 trillion.

Alega! :-)
Och thinking just hurts you in the end. It`s the `Marnocks on Saturday. If the Bhoys are signing anyone PLEASE LET IT BE A GOOD PLAYER!
I have to keep myself focused for Wednesday. Come on the Celts!

Reports off lafferty signing for a sum in excerss of £3m!!

Agree with giving the young a chance (Sno and Caddis)

I think JFK is capable of taking the ball forward into midfield, however he needs a commanding ball winner with him - Mick, isn't the answer IMO. Bobo for me every time. Rumours of Hyppia - what is the point. Cup tied (CL) and slower than the Titanic on the turn.

Have to sign someone eligible for the Barca game surely. If we don't teh SSM and the Board are telling us that we can never even try to go any further in Europe. Will be so angry to do this 2 years running.

Bobo's Guinea qualified for the last 8 of the ANC BTW. 1-1 draw v Namibea. No idea how Bobo played.

Samaras and Mizuno confirmed as signings on the Ofeeshall site

That`s pace but not necessarily strength.

I was feeling really good about this until Ian's remark, which brought me back down to earth a bit.
True enough, we still need that bit of dig and experience in the midfield - I'll keep the fingers crossed until the windae bangs shut.

Sammy must be in contention for Jan's place, tho'. So a great extra option (thinking about Barca games here as well).

Mizuno is obviously here to be coached along by Naka, for next year and beyond.

Questions:
Is the SSM hoping to shift jerseys in Greece as well now?

Is that Majic for the off? and will we get any dosh back for him?

Why are we signing all this young talent, and yet we are not exactly the best in the world at giving youngsters a run of games ?

Four game ban for doing heehaw1 The SFA and justice don`t go together!
No matter who is signed it can`t take our eye of the ball. Motherwell away is as hard as it gets!
Come on the Bhoys!

Probably for the best but it could have been decided at 3 o'clock not 60mins before KO!

Players can't be asked to play on that type of surface, but just as importantly the punters need to know well in advance not to waste their precious time.

Pressure will be slightly off on Saturday with the cup game. Then a couple of cracking league games where - hopefully - we can get our act together before Barca come calling.

No mutton on the menu in tonight's other game? Hope they kick lumps oota each other.
:o)

`Twas the 31st of January and even people with little interest were interested in the final deals of the transfer window. 8-)Even so that MON takes things to far! :-)

right a wee round up of what's been rumoured and made up and the one little iota of truth so far.

Barrington robson is somewhere having a medical with us.

Jim O'Brien is somewhere up Dundee way having a medical before completing a loan deal with the arabs until the end of the season.

Rumour is that Wee Gordo wants to sign Hutchinson today and not wait until season end.

Jiri Jarosik has been linked with a move to some russia mob with a name along the lines of lyrical samarai. the deal involves cash and a layer. the player linked with a move to us is some striker by the name of Igor Shevchenko.

Bobo Balde has been seen at Harrods. Not sure how as he's in Ghana but never mind.

A source in London claims we enquired about Tom Soares from Palace ad were told in no uncertain terms to get ourselves to flip.

Other players linked are Ross McCormack from Mothersmell which has sarked the usual..aw naww..no another ex-hun, some french defender who's name escapes me right now.

and the monkeys have sold Woy Cawwoll to derby and are supposedly spending seven million moonbeams on Caracciolo from Sampdoria who has scored a whopping 3 goals this season includng 1 in the magnificently named Serie A TIM, which is their league.

unfortunately he's not scored in the TIM cup. Wonder if the Vatican FC are the champons of that trophy....again.

They've also supposedly signed either Steven Davis (NI international) or Simon Davies (Shaggy heided Welsh Interational) this was on one of the less reputable radio stations (what do you mean they're all reputable?) at some point this morning. probably the same station which broke the Brown To Quit stories from yesterday.

oh and Sami Hyppia was delivered to Celtic Park in a taxi this afternoon.....aye right!

that's yer lot.

your roving boards reporter.
