The Celts v Barca - FT 2-3

Well, the Bhoys were chasing shadows in that second half.

Unfortunately the poor passing and cheap mistakes we were making in the first half continued, so we made an already difficult task impossible for ourselves.

A schoolboy error from Gary Cauldwell led to an early equalizer (51min).
And it was no real surprise when Messi eventually knocked in the winner with 10 mins to go.

Once Barca snuffed out the threat posed by Aiden, we just had too many players unable to step up a level.

Tonight, Barcelona played REALLY well - exhibition football - a masterclass even.
To be honest I don't remember ever seeing a team play so well against us.

We were outplayed - especially in the second half - BUT the Bhoys kept fighting till the end.
We tried to play football - but we came up against better than us - MUCH better than us - no shame to lose tonight.

Wilson (for Caddis), Donati (for Hartley) and Sammy (for Jan) all did their bit.

Well done to the fans who never gave up - the singing and encouragement came thru loud and clear.

I have to agree with the whole assessment. It's odd to be disappointed, but at the same time not too much as it's very clear that the better team won. Man, did Barca look good. At times, I just had to open my mouth and marvel at how this team could possibly not be leading La Liga, and this was without Eto'o!

A game, game show from the Bhoys. Nothing to hang heads about here. Wish I could have been there and will definitely be at Camp Nou in spirit a fortnight hence.

Wanted to write this when it was still fresh, when I was still sair, tired, emotional and feeling like I have kicked EVER ba’. I wanted to post when I’m angry, annoyed, in awed and absolutely proud…but at the same time disappointed in the modern fan, the way we lost the goals and the fact that we lost after giving so much against the BEST TEAM on the planet.

I canny imaging how the players are feeling. Very inadequate I expect and drained.

Canny argue wie the match report, first half we used the ba’ a lot better and we troubled them when we were intelligent and unsloppy. Second half? A masterclass, not seen since PSG in 95. a £38 worth humping that was a privalige to watch the worlds best rip oor best to shreds.

But we had a go..we paid for not being guid enough on the ba’ in the second, we were unintelligent and sloppy wie the ba’.

No-one is to blame, I said at HT if Barca fancied it then we were in trouble. They fancied it. We made it easy but the mistakes on delayed the inevitable.

Subs, were puzzling to say the least but were not factors. We met a Barca team whom have admitted that is the best they have played this season.

Glad the hoop players have acknowledged their failings as well on the night.

Tonight, was the reward for overcoming teams we can and should be competing wie- Benfica and Donestk- tonight proved the holy grail is as far away as it ever was…..

But I enjoyed it..

Canny wait to score in the camp nou, I only hope I’m in the stadium to see it!!!!!

Something about this match reminded me about the game against Blackburn at CP ("we played shit" said HL , men against boys jibe, etc).

Last night, for big chunks it looked more like men against infants BUT our lads will be hurting: they know they could and should have done better.
Something tells me they will go to Nou Camp with no fear and on a mission.

Get the first goal, play as we know we can, and we'll give them a game.

Don't think we'll qualify, mind you, but a draw over there would keep our pride and reputation intact.

Agree with everyone's assessment.

Last night Barca were simply awesome in the second half, however I am puzzled by the tactics we employed after what was an excellent 45 opening minutes.

Unless, the substitutions were forced due to injury than why did we end up playing 4-3-3 for much of the 2nd half without anyone who can tackle in the midfield.

Their goals were well executed but we didn't help ourselves. Still we're not out of this yet and the noise came accross loud and clear on the TV last night. What an atmosphere.

Good day for bad news?

Noticed tucked away in the Hootsman that the Huns announced their figures for last half of 2007.

"interim accounts do not detail their debt"

BLA BLA BLA

"It stood at almost £74 million in 2004, before being dramatically reduced to less than £6 million by 2006 after a £53 million share rights issue that was underwritten by Murray. It rose again last year after Rangers failed to qualify for the 2006-07 Champions League."

SO HOW MUCH IS IT NOW THEN, FFS ???

WHY ARE NO HACKS ASKING THE QUESTION ???

I hate those Brastards - really do - everything about our figures were held up to the light and scrutinized by all and sundry.

They sneak out half-baked figures when everybodies attention is on the CL.

C'Mon the Shamrocks !!!

Some players you hate because deep doon you know they are decent players who cause yer team trouble....

I just hate Nacho Novo cause he is a pwrick....:-)

I think we really missed Scott Brown who was out due to the yellows accrued. I think he could have helped us tackle and hold the ball. We'll have him for the next game.

I hate the stankmonster because he is a man-whore.

I hate the stankmonster because he makes my flesh creep.

But mosty, I hate the stankmonster because he breathes air.

Oh, and I hate Sally as well, and Cousin, and Boyd, and FergusHun, and... their whole damn institution.

When I heard the team last night I was worrying that we had surrendered the midfield due to lack of quality. Although I had reservations about Robson in the first half he more than made up for that with the goal. Second half was a different story. The team were protecting the goal fairly well but the midfielders giving the ball back to the defenders was losing us the ball. All of the substitutions were surprising but he was trying to change things. It`s always a fine line in these games. So near yet so far. I had a night of praising Yaya Toure, not what I had expected!
The `fans` who kept up the moans at Gary Caldwell weren`t helping the Celtic cause but fortunately he is a strong character. :-)
Talking of `fans`, I had walked along the Gallowgate about an hour before the kick off and the drunken behaviour was sickening. Grown men indeed!
Two more games for the horribles will keep them occupied.

I thought Robson was out his depth but he improved after his goal.

Subs, were strange but i don't think they had a bearing.

Welcome, yes we did miss Broony but his yellows have been stupid. He will learn.

Unsure if he would have helped us holding onto the ba'.

Not one of his strong points...

Ian- sorry aboot the CQN type reply, MrsG is asking me to get off the laptop...

Bebo or something...

Sorry about uncharacteristic comments, lhads - a wee bit strong.

Yes, still off the sauce _ now I know where the expression "long as lent" comes from.

Will be off for a wee sejour in the alps with Mrs67 and 67junior - so won't be able to do any match reports for a while (should be back for Hibs game).
Any takers?

Don't know if I'll even be able to get the scores/internet in that wee corner of the french mountains.

Might do me good
:o)

Phew! I had on Reporting Scotland there and they had the Rangers goal from Athens, the celebrations at the end, the players arriving home in Glasgow and very scary supporters arriving back.
I have suffered, I have been to the mountain!
Okay Karma, do your thing! :-)
