Foot In Mouth Disease...

Words mean nuthin at all said an Irish crooner sometime in the past. So i hope you all remember this as i point yer attention to ma be care full what you wish for musing last week. I'll highlight the good bit for you....

As Celtic watchers we have watched Mick grow into a competent centre half. We fully understand his quote, as until Kaka skinned him the San Siro last year he, while looking at times he was being stretched to the limit and looking like some tackles would be his last, proved that he could lift his game to a level where he understood how best to use his competent but limited ability.

That's something Bobo Balde never could do no matter how many years and how many mistakes he made. We were always waiting for the Bobo error, the gaff the lunge that would make it go pear shaped.

Was i tempting fate wie that prediction? Mick proved just as fallible as Bobo and Varga of old to the odd howler in the white hot heat of top level action. But then i did say Mick was a competent centre half wie limited ability and one that when yer board give you a UEFA cup budget and are happy for you just to be in the competition then he is what we need to go wie.

But it is nice to see Mick showing what i think Mick is all aboot wie his soundbite today. Sensible lad, like me, knows his limitations and like me has dusted doon and getting on wie business.

You see, i watched the highlights from last nights games. Apart from Valencia, no other away team won last night. Even then Schalke 04 missed a barrowload of chances and the Schalke goalie gifted the Spaniards the goal. Have a look at these stats from UEFA. You don't see many away sides have the lions share of possession or the most shots on goal do you?

Shakhter huvnae been beaten in their last five Champions League home games. If you look around Europe you will see other similar records. The Champions League for punters should be home banker bets all the way. Match day one also see's very few upsets as teams are always well up for it and they usually go to form.

Away wins are few and far between in the Champions League wie even the top pot one teams sometimes accepting a draw away from home is a decent result. Even then the pot one teams seem to be the only ones that win regularly away from home, Man Utd apart....

Maybe we and the manager should take all the above on board.

Forza

The Jam thing is what the fella Neg Anon is always asking for "When are we going to get oor jam" as in when are we going to get the spend that Paul67 and the others (esp. the Coterie) have alluded to coming at the next (always the next) transfer window.

Arctic's comment about the Marmite cracks me up cos I fekking hate the stuff, while Mrs Baldy and the kids love it.

Still trawling through the various sites. Glad to see Johnbhoy has posted a new one on his Celticfcblog regarding the kids.

Regarding Big Mick, his inability to win a defensive header is his undoing. I really hoped that he would show this year against decent opposition that he would be able to add this to his game - last night showed us that this is still a long way from this.

Gary Caldwell was IMO our best defender by a fair distance last night. Is bringing Bobo back going to improve things? Dunno. Would rather see JFK get an extended run out and (by that I mean the season) to see how he gets on, well before Bobo.

I know that winning away from home is a rare beast, but as yet we haven't come close to even a draw except Barca away (when we got one) and the Man Yoo match when it could be argued by the most green tinted baldy speccy (i.e. ME!!) that we deserved one against Fergie's Cloven Hoofed Minions. If we even got a performance in an away match, then I would be happier.

Hope 'Mo Mo Massimo' was just sharing a joke as you say and yeah it was his reaction that caused me to chuck a cushion at my Dad's TV causing a few swearie from the Old Yins.

Right off to watch the Egg chasing on ITV4

To be honest I didn`t have great hopes about a good result last night and the result tonight at I*rox has rubbed salt into an open wound. Just as well that i can handle this!:-/

Baldy i agree aboot Caldwell last night and the hoopy fans i was speaking to tonight agreed.

Mick has a good positional sense, which makes up for his faults but at a high level sometimes that is not good enough.

R*ngers tonight, Stuutgart were poor and wasteful in posession but must admit r*ngers deserved to win the game for their last twenty five minute performance....

Away wins, only one this evening and just watching the highlights again most away teams have been under the cosh...

meant to say aboot Balde, i think bringing him back would be a step backwards..Caldwell and Mick are decent enough, they get left exposed by the system employed and weak full backs.

watching the highlights from Europe tonight and last night i have just noticed how many goals are scored from decent balls in from wide areas and also set plays.

i've seen some great balls in tonight..does that mean that there isnny a decent full back in Europe?

Also by the look of things most away team looked oot of shape and like they were being dragged everywhere...maybe i will trawl blogs of other defeat teams to see if they are hanging their respective teams....

Only five more CL nights to worry about. The Shakhtar players are already writing us off. This is where karma comes in. :-)
No way Jose!

Only TEN more CL nights to worry about :o).

Watched Barca V Lyon last night, possesion was about 80/20 for Barca. Lyon -not the team they were- are shitting themselves at the prospect of the huns to to ... GERland. No joke.

Huns for last 16? Don't know - surely not tho'. Can't deny they did the biz last night.

Results all over Europe show that home wins are the norm - if you don't pick up the 3pts in yer own backyard yer in trouble, no matter who comes calling. If we draw/lose to Ac milan in the next game, Benfica away becomes a must win.

No way are Benfica a "2nd seed" team, so we should be able to plunder max pts from them. Then again Shaktar are never a "4th seed" team...

It all gets complicated - my head starting to hurt here - only ten more CL nights to go.

Bring on the Hibs and we'll get this out our system!

Six,
you have twice the worries that I have. Thank you! :-)
Let`s get ready for Hibs!

Ian, that's the way it's always been for me, unfortunately.
Follow the Tic, you've always got an eye on the dark side.

Last weekend everything was rosy, three days later the pendulum has swung and the Hibs game takes on bigger proportions that it looked at the start of the week.

On the other hand, maybe it's all in my head. My wife for one thinks I'm crazy. On Tuesday night she said "How can you be upset, your rugby team won!".
And I'm the crazy one in the family!?!

Just thinking...1-1 against Rosenberg, would Gordon Strachan have survived that?
Stuttgart have a wee team mentality.` Great we won the league, that`ll do for this decade!`
Have a look at the performance of Hamburger SV last season in the CL. In Germany it`s Bayern or naebody.
Woe, woe, woe for our pot 4 draw!
(c) It`s only an Excuse! :-)

Six- I think Benfica are a better side than us but a weak pot 2 team not as weak as PSV though.

I watched the r*ngers game last night and yes i think they will beat Lyon at gerland...it's the first time i watched a r*ngers game in the CL for years...i usually just flick over and check the score.

But today i could listen to the h*ns at ma work and know they were talking sh*te...like us they are the worst team in their group...but it was good to have a take on their game...but i dinny worry aboot their nights.

Ma three game package of tickets arrived yesterday too...hows that for timing!!!!

ian- Rosenburg got relegated two seasons ago to....it was Jose's Artmedia....
