“One Man Loves The Mo, The Massimo Donati”
Really must admit, the Prostar figures are a lot better than the Mircostar figures. I mean, look at Naka he is towering over Hleb and Jens Lehmann but he is not as big as the Guinness, who is quite Bobo imposing alongside the others. I’m sure he is not bitter, he is the only Timmy in the range and der Hun are conspicuous in their absence from the 2006 range.
Now, you may be wondering why I have two arses on ma desk. They were a “secret Santa” pressie. There were three of them in the pack but one was FergieHun the uncarded. He was taken from ma clutches for his own well-being..of course the FACT two arses were in the packet wisnae anything to do wie THAT packet being bought.
So Naka lines up alongside Martins, Evra- both available in home and away kits-,Mascherano, Cole, Giggs and a wee gander at their website shows you can get Stan P in 2004’s bottle green away kit, Bobo, Henri Camara(!), Juninho(!) and for 35 quid you can get the Lisboa Lions full team complete wie Big Jock casting his shadow over the whole of Scottish Figurine world....
So why can we only get Naka? What happens if yer ankle bitter wants Aiden McGeady or a Hesslelink? What if you want a Mick McManus to police yer desk wie uncompromising style, a Gary Calderbuer to kick yer post in notes off yer desk, a Scott McDonald to take up half yer terminal screen due to the size of his erse or an Arfur Boruc to bless the place that you work?
Or what if like me you want a Massimo Donati? You want an enigmatic dyed hair Italian to grace yer desk, to appear for 10 to 15mins spells, too brighten up yer day then disappear for the remaining hour or so before appearing again trying to “World Cup Ba’” yer tippex to Phil Neville on the desk behind you?
I want a Massimo so at least one would be sold, as where I sit in the stadium I think I’m the only Massimo “fan” in the section. Judging by the Timternet I think there is only one Massimo fan in every section….must be lonely for the £10m reject© The Daily Ragger…..
Ok, I know he has faded from his early promise and yes some of his performances have been heidscratching to say the least. Mind you, when he lost form the whole of the team lost form at the same time so maybe it wisnae only just him that needed a boot up the archie.
Still, he has had some howlers. The CIS Cup game against Hearts was a shocker. Donestk at CP was another shocker- his first pass missed it’s target by 20 yards. Ipox? Guilty yer honour, posted missing like all 11 Hoops that day.
But, what about the moments of beauty and skill? His goals against Hearts and Aberdeen being the perfect examples. What aboot the sheer thrill of his last minute winner against Donestk? Some feat after 80 odd minutes of not being able to hit coo’s arse wie a banjo.
Over the last few games he has done enough, for me- I reckon this has been his most consistent spell, which is maybe not saying much-, not to get placed in the Tommy Gravesen lost cause category. Mo, was heading doon that round according to some but unlike “The Grav” time was always on Massimo’s side. While “The Grav” had trawled his arse roond Europe, Massimo was dipping his big toe ootside Italy for the first time.
He is a player that the game seems to pass by but if you watch closely he probably has mair touches on the ba’ than you think. He does the simple pass, most forward I may add, but he only seems to get noticed when he tries the “World Cup Ba’” or the forward thinking pass that disnae come off.
Then we get to the crux of the matter why I like the big Italian Stallion. Yes, he like The Grav and Jiri Jaro before him, has his failings. Yes, I worry that he could go missing in every game he plays, esp against der Hun where he could get booted and hassled oot the park and yes, I worry that he tackles like a big Jessie at times.
But, I temper that wie the fact, he can create, he can score and he likes playing wie ba’ players, which thankfully we have in the midfield. Unlike some will berate him for trying to do what he does well, well.
Saturday, perfect example. Scott Broon- who in the eyes of the antidonatibrigade cannae do no wrong- tried to recreate Massimo’s woeful first pass against Donestk. He did recreate wie and he did it wie knobs on. The ba’ missed it’s target- Lee Naylor, who was also Massimo’s target that night- by the length of the London Road.
Were there howls of venom raining doon from the stands towards Broony? Wis there heck, it was meet wie muted applause and a few “Unlucky Son”. Cast yer mind back and remember Massimo’s effort? The screams of green murder burst eardrums all over the East End.
So what’s the difference? I will praise any player that tries something to take the team forward. Something that shows a bit of vision, intelligence and taking a risk, as long as the risk is in the correct area.
I get annoyed when guys berate Naka or Aiden for trying to beat a man. I get annoyed wie guys that have a go at Skippy or Jan for having a shot at goal. But I really get annoyed at Donati seems to get abuse while Skoosh can run up blind alleyways, have a first touch as bad as I have ever seen and misplace passes but gets the auld line “He’s young and he will learn”
Bolloxs.
Broony doing all of the above is no different to Massimo trying to switch play, trying to find that forward pass and trying to keep possession. While Broony will emit a Duracell bunny energy, which is loved by us cavemanic Scots, and will, rightly, get praised it’s easier to notice than what Massimo does. But what Massimo does is just as important.
I reckon if we show the Big Man the love, then we will get performances from him. So the next time we see him give him a big hug and a box of milk tray. Or just cheer him on Wednesday night when he fires a ba’ straight to Xavi….
Forza

I thought that as well, was suprised, well not really, when Aiden got MOTM.
Then i get hame and guys in the pub say he was poor and sixtaeseven blogged he needs to do mair.
He splits the support as much as the manager.
Wednesday night is a big night for him....

I cannae remember talking to anyone that looked like Mark Viduka mate...
Mind you, in a Fast Show type fashion "I was very, very, veryyy drunk at the time...."
Donati was MOTM for me too. His forward passes in the second half were a joy and his wee dummy when he came in from the left wing was good fun. I think you know that he can be inconsistent but he can also lift the Bhoys on Wednesday. quite often these type of matches sees the team getting nervous and playing poor passes. It`s his job to keep the standard up.
Hai una bella partita Massimo. This is a bonus game for us, doesn`t mean that I won`t start eating my gloves! :-)
Forza
I thought the Donut was average in the first half but came on to a very good game in the second. Aiden was my MOTM, not by default, but mainly due to his two assists.
I mentioned a couple of posts ago, about horses for courses. I think the Donut is a thoroughbred and he will come to the fore on the European stage in the big matches against the likes of Barca.
It will take him at least a full season to get used to the carthorses and terriers of the SPL. I think that next season he will be a better, more consistent, and more influential player for us.
In any case, I hope he can go on to be a success where the Grav and Jiri fell short.
McCurry to play at Tynecastle next week Shocker.
Getting beyond a joke now, lhads
:o(
Must be pre match nerves but I can`t get too worried about Mr McCurry. (He was ref when Hearts beat the them 4-2.
I`m hoping that we finish the game with some chance of getting through, is that too much to ask. I kinda like the idea of Sno playing so long as he is banned (forever) from doing dragbacks!
:-)
Come on the Bhoys!
Barca chief warns Celtic fans February 19, 2008 The police commissioner of FC Barcelona has admitted that the club will not be so lenient with Celtic fans next month – because of the actions of Rangers yobs in the Catalan city last year. Celtic supporters have enjoyed a good relationship with Spain, winning awards for the behaviour when more than 30,000 travelled to Seville for the 2003 Uefa Cup final before a couple of trips to Barcelona. But experiences with Rangers fans during the first phase of this season’s Champions League has alerted Barca chiefs to the dangers of Scottish supporters, and police commissioner Paz Molinas admits the club will not tolerate a repeat from Celtic followers next month. He said: “We had a terrible experience with Rangers – fans were drinking, urinating in public and causing noise. It was the worst experience we’ve had in recent years for a game of football. “The mayor doesn’t want a repeat. The images in the media didn’t look good and opposition politicians blamed him at the time for being too lenient and not preparing enough.”
I'm loving the spin that is now coming oot in the lead up to oor last 16 game against Barca.
Der Hunnish Orcs have left now welcome Harry Hood and his merry band of Rebels....

You are probably right wie the horses for courses take on things. I made the point the other evening ,over a fine wine, that I don’t think Massimo will play in a few away games due to the frantic nature of the SPL.
Agree, next season we will need to see him boost on and, for me, he has shown mair than the Grav and Jiri to make me think he can do it.

Two games at Tynie for them he has now had. As Ian said, the last time was a wee defeat for the orcs. Are the SPL running oot of MIB’s to go roond?
Is he some sort of bionic MIB, which means he is immune to injuries, bumpy pitches and quagmires? Is he some superduper MIB cloned in the deepest darkest bunker of masonicdome?
Can we handle the truth?

Yes, keep the tie alive is all we can ask. Want ma moneys worth in Catalunya...c’mon at least give me 15 mins of the returning believing that we may sneak a win....
Unsure about the thought of Sno tomorrow night, though the freezing fog tonight is a bit worrying. Freezing fog doing drag backs…now I would pay to see that…
I think Murray's MaCurry for Tynecastle might be just a rumour.
At the end of the day, I don't give a monkeys about the Reverand hanging about the Govanites like a bad smell.
After all, we've got the Priest coming to Paradise...

How does the atmosphere and noise at Celtic Park compare to other big stadia in Europe?
It's a very special atmosphere you have there, very different from any other club. British grounds in general have their very own feel, but at Celtic Park it is particularly special.

“It will be a real pleasure to visit Celtic Park and feel the atmosphere of a great UEFA Champions League night at such a great venue.
Now, while I would rather have these sort of oor fans than other the other sort, I’m beginning to find the deluge of these quotes from the “Top Table” teams as patronising.
Feel, no matter how true they are, that it’s a way of the “Big Boys” praise us, instead of having to find something nice to say aboot the team.
True, we have inspired the team to great victories and yes the atmosphere is up there wie anything that Europe can offer but the fans can’t score last minute winners, drive on when their legs have gone or make that last ditch challenge on one of the best players in the world.
It’s only the players that do that.
Maybe, yes, we inspire them but…..bottomline is, they inspire us to give that support.
The moniker Fortress Parkheid and the bumming up of the fans is a reason that I have avoided messageboards, papers and phone in’s this week. It’s all so clichéd, so predictable and getting a tad boring.
Not that I’m blaze aboot these nights. No, make no mistakes all day tomorrow I will be like gypsies dug wie two tails. This is the only time we get to put one over the rich and the greedy. The only time oor underdog credentials shine through like the floodlight East End on European nights.
A time when any victory feels like one for the wee man.
A time when the players should saviour and get the same praise for THEIR victories as the fans get for their part.
Tomorrow, I won’t be singing to ensure the status quo and the fans reputation is enhanced I will be singing to back the players to pull of another great result and help me box another memory.
Hopefully come Thursday everyone will be talking aboot JVOH, Skippy, Aiden and Mick. Not just the atmosphere.
In the words of GS, I want the press to be saying “We are a right guid team, brave, attack minded and fearless” If that happens then it’s joab done no matter the result.
Forza

Records mean nothing, it`s all about the game tomorrow night. Come on the Bhoys!
Totally agree with the messageboards, papers etc this week ... clichéd, predictable, boring ...
The only thing the matters is what happens on the park during those 2*45 minutes.
A decent enough transfer windae and a few decent results has given us a real buzz and new belief.
We are the best team in Scotland - we'll take it from there.
None of the group winners managed an away victory last night. Liverpool got the best result and the biggest surprise of the night. Inter became too defensive after going down to 10 players. They didn`t have an out ball and played as if the had lost another couple of players. Fair play to Liverpool, they don`t have many tricks but they kept the pressure up.
Forza
Birthdays for Artur and Massimo today. Hope it`s a winning one.
