Motherwell v Celtic Preamble
We all know the score - anything less than 3pts today and we can say bye-bye to the league.
Motherwell, probably the 3rd best in the country, at Fir Park is never an easy proposition.
The pitch will be a quagmire, assuming it passes the 9:00 inspection.
Added to that it's been a dismal week all in: scraping a last minute draw at Pittodrie, dropping two precious points at home to DU - and we won't even mention the Golden Waistcoat XI...
Moral is low, the troops are hurting and unsure - can we still do it ... are we any good?
My view is that we've got a dozen games left - games where there won't be much room for the silky football we all crave. We've got get a strong and settled side together. No more chopping and changing.
We need guys who can play in quagmires and freezing horizontal sleet, guys who can fight and tackle and win the ball, guys that will bounce back when they've been pushed and shoved and kicked, and above all guys that don't want to hand over our league flag to a team infamous for its anti-football.
Here's the team I would start playing from now on:
------------------Boruc---------------
Hinkel---Caldwell--McManus-Naylor
Robson---Brown--Hartley--McGeady
----------Samaras-JVoH-------------
No Donati, no Naka, no Sno, ... Skippy needs a rest (he will be travelling round the world again soon as well). I would use them all sparingly from now on.
We need a settled side and we need to stick with it.
A wee bonus is that any win at all tomorrow and we are top of the league
:o)

Come on the Bhoys!
rubbish the game is off.
i agree reg your team, i would have balde in but he seems to have disapeared since getting injured at african nations.
skippy has been brilliant but could do with a rest.
hartley should play every week for me.
amazingly so, the last league game he started was when we beat aberdeen 5-1 (sorry if someone has mentioned this already in last few days as my monitor wasn't working so just back in action).
i find that amazing especially when in that game the midfield looked great and him and brown complimented each other so well.
i think if we were playing barca again during the week or them then hartley would play so why doesn't he play in other games as every game is must win at the moment.
if balde isn't going to be used we are crying out for a bit of physical presence in the summer both at the back and centre-midfield.
we need a few experienced players as well, like when keane came in along with dublin in january in strachan's 1st season.
altho dublin wasn't everyone's cup of tea he knew wot it was all about to win games/leagues etc and done well i thought.
The Motherwell-Gretna combo is a joke. One doesn't have a pitch to play on and the other is about to plunge the league into chaos.
Is it too much to plan ahead and get games switched to another venue (ex: Hampden)?
Scottish fitba (SPL, SFA, the lot) is in a dire state but as long as the huns are doing well, every thing is hunky dory.
I would watch the rugby but I can't get my head round our international team's jersey with a shit sponsor's name on the jersey.
Ach well, where's ma DIY list...?
Up at 7:30am this morning looked oot the windae and it was dry. Chance of the game being on I thought. Fir Park must be knackered and I wholly agree that Hampden must now be given to Motherwell and Gretna must either play at Hampden or QOS to allow those games to be completed.
Next week we go to Gretna? Will it be on? Will I bother getting a ticket, will they be in business? Are we playing in the Eircom League?
Motherwell, really should get their baws booted for this and any advantage they wid have had playing at hame should now be forfeited. Stuff it, relegate them, deduct them 20 points and force them to go bust.
Your team, I agree wie your quagmires and horizontal sleet line, but I feel leaving oot Naka is folly but a CM pairing of Hartley and Broon is a must from now to the end of the season.
Robson can come on and do a job and Robson will be needed in the CM when Broony gets the “in the post” three game ban. We oor best players on the park and Naka is one of oor best players.
Skippy will get the other “in the post” three game ban so big Georgios will get his chance so, very soon. I agree we require a settled team but will wee GS stop tinkering wie oor midfield?
Seven- Yes, I agree and have thought aboot that 5-1 game yesterday. Hartley and Broon are oor best CM pairing in IMO and Hartley should be a given every week. Canny believe I just said that. Note to all readers: Please don’t read tail end of last season reports as you will see wie ma Hartley statement I am a hypocrite.
Also, I don’t think fretting aboot needing experience like Keano and Dublin is right at this time. I understand what you are saying but we need to go with what we have got.
I think we have enough to win the league and cup it’s whether we want it more than them is the problem.
The bigger picture: 16 team SPL, mid winter break and move all cup games to weekends- including the CISSY Cup.
St Mirren are no worse than St Johnstone, Hamilton or Dundee. So those who would complain aboot the quality why? There is nothing between the bottom six and the top six in the first division IMO.
Stuff Setanta and there poxy money. Fans need entertainment and need to see a decent product.
Maybe those of an older generation who have seen a 16 team league will disagree?
Och, done ma housework, having a wee look at the form, trip to the bookies and a wee watch of Chelsea Sunderland I think….
Don't click that the above bunch of Noel Hunts...
I know
You know
He/she knows
We know
They know
that a Cissy cup's only value is when it is paired with something... on its own it's a bit of an embarrassment. I always felt uncomfortable with it in 2000 when we won it with Dalglish as manager.
Looking forward to a game of fitba' ramorra!!!
Hail Hail
The cup replay gives the Bhoys a chance to get back to winning ways. Goodness knows what the attendance will be though.
Maybe a higher percentage of positive supporters. :-)
Happy Semana Santa! (is there a card for that?)
Did Clark book Jarosik after he scored at Tynecastle last season?
Burly:
"David Weir has been left out because of his club's busy domestic schedule."
That's all right then, all's well at the ludge.
Come on the Bhoys in the cup!
I remember that CISSY Cup Final as well, Vidar Riseth scored…how we celebrated…still I would have rather have the CISSY Cup IN oor trophy room than theirs.
I’m worried aboot tonights attendance, I huvnae got ma own seat- doon at the corner flag at the Celtic End tonight- and I always worry when I don’t have ma own seat. Last time I sat in the bottom tier for a cup tie we got beat of Fawkirk
Also, I find it strangely alluring that tonight is not a gimmie game cause I don’t know what Celtic team will turn up? Will it be Brazil 70 or Celtic 93….
Unsure aboot Jiri getting booked.
I cannae believe Burley came oot wie that, I see mair call offs from TFOD before next weeks meaningless game. And they wonder after KC performance in the cup final and then a comment aboot resting der huns “lynchpin” before a derby game why we are paranoid?
John D- from the last thread, Broony seems to cause me a few Basil moments as I wonder, like many others, where that goal scoring midfielder that used to play for Hibs has went to…..
Correct, no snapping of seats or booing at CP allowed- unless yer a tube and you think booing Sno and Caldwell is a sign of showing support, feck why did a just mention Sno….
Got me thinking aboot the midfield for tonight now…..
Mantra today- Broon and Hartley, Broon and Hartley….
Aberdeen assistant manager Jimmy Nicholl:
"If there are only 30,000 fans at the game, I hope there are 30,000 fans booing the Celtic players off at half-time.
As long as they are getting booed off the park at half-time, that will do me lovely."
WTF? This guy is only interested in hearing Celtic fans boo BUT doesn't mention anything about the game, what his team's chances are, how they are going to tackle the game, etc.
Everybody hates the Taigs, eh?
Should be pinned on the dressing room wall...
I won`t be booing at half time but I may be cheering.
Come on the Celts! Up for the cup! :-)
